The Sun: 8 Amazing Facts

1. The sun is huge! It’s so big that 1 million Earths could fit inside of it.

2. The sun is really, really hot. In fact, its surface temperature is about 5537 Degrees Celsius.

3. The sun gives off a ton of energy… enough to power the entire world for one year!

4. The sun is made up of mostly hydrogen and helium gas.

5. The sun has been around for a long time—about 4.6 billion years! And it’s not going anywhere anytime soon; it will probably stick around for another 5 billion years or so before dying out completely.

6. The sun rotates on its axis once every 25 days…but it actually takes longer for different parts of the sun to rotate because it’s not a perfect sphere (it’s flattened at the poles). This means that some areas near the equator rotate faster than others near the poles.

7. Since the sun is so huge and bright, you might think that you can see all of it at once…but you can only see about half of its surface from Earth because the other half is always facing away from us!

8. The side of the sun facing away from Earth is actually cooler than the side facing towards us…even though it’s much further away from the Sun’s core where all the heat comes from! Scientists think this happens because there are fewer Sunspots on that side which means less heat escapes into space. Crazy, right?
